Summary of Design! Design!

Functionality: Functionally in design s to speak of the Bauhaus.
This is from the first half of the book, which is all about furniture and lighting. I found it interesting and relevant to what’s been talked about in the lectures.
The Bauhaus school in Weimar, Germany was founded by Walter Groplus. He introduced innovative production aesthetics fused with industrial machinery. His approach led to a reform in art education that was to create a new type of society. He would be an interesting person to look at.
Bauhaus created the models and established the rules for the industrial design of the present.

Design: Design is the “activity directed to achieving assembly line production of useful and attractive object. It’s origins go back to the Industrial revolution , which help establish with the traditional system of craft production.

The political, socio-economic, cultural and technological contexts led to the appearance of design products that in another way would never have come into existence.

In times of bonanza there tends to be a movement towards dedicating all of the available energy to the surface and appearance of the object.

New preoccupations of the designers, manufacturers and society at large.

There is a constant flow of new contributions towards the never ending possibilities offered by human creativity.

What will the 21st century bring us?
