MODERNISM: Designing new world.

Russian revolution, no style but a lose collection of ideas.
Principles: history, abstract, technology able to change.

Baroque (1600 - 1700) triggers a gut response.

INDUSTRIALISATION: still developing its own style, still very classical, this stage influenced today. Manchester was one of the first industrial cities.
Design = decoration and orientation. there was a dilemma in style.
Thomas Cole "What am i trying to say?"

William Morris was the pioneer. He introduces the aesthetics of products, the simplicity of shape and the use of honest materials.
"HAVE NOTHING IN YOUR HOUSE THAT IS BEAUTIFUL YET USELESS"
He was changing society through design, trying to change social function and raise moral.
FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION.

WW1 was a key point, beginning of movement.

RUSSIAN CONSTRUCTIVISM: main designers 1915 Kaziman Malevich, 1919-1925 El Llssitzky, Aleksandar Raclchenko, Victor Taln, 1928 Katarzyna Kobro, Gustars Kluas, 1930 Yakov Chernivor. all brought different aspects.

ITALIAN FUTURISM: beauty of speed. There was an emotional and sensual desire rather than practical. 1913 Umberto Boccioni, Piet Mondrian.
DE STIJL: (neo platsicm) extreme, primary and geometric. Theo van Duesbury, Gerut Rieteuv.

1910 BAUHAUS 3 aspects: work, creativity, value.
thinking - manufacture. Art and beauty isn't just for exhibitions and gallery's, people should be able to engage with it. aiming to inter grate art with society. Architecture became involved in new aspects and disciplines. it was a total work of art.
